Don’t just let your investment sit in a folder on your desktop!

You did the hard part.

You invested in professional photos for your business, stepped in front of the camera, survived the nerves, and now you’ve got a gallery full of beautiful images which you’re excited to start using them.

But then reality kicks in.

You download the images, tell yourself you’ll update everything “when you get a chance”… and six months later you’re still using the same profile photo from 2019.

If that sounds familiar, you’re definitely not alone.

Many business owners invest in professional brand photography, only to use one image on social media and leave the rest sitting in a folder on their computer.

Your investment deserves better than that.

Your photos can be a valuable marketing tool that can help potential clients get to know, like and trust you before you’ve even spoken.

Here are 11 places your photos can work harder for your business.

1. Refresh Your Website

Your website is often your digital shop window.

Updating your homepage, About page, services pages and contact page with fresh photography immediately makes your business feel more current, personal and professional.

Your About page is often one of the most visited pages on your website.

If your photo is several years old, or doesn’t really reflect who you are anymore, now’s the perfect time for an update.

It’s also a great reminder to refresh your image file names and alt text, giving your website a little SEO boost at the same time.

2. Update every professional profile

Most people think about updating your profile on LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram

But forget about so many other places your clients might come across you, such as:

Using the same professional image across multiple platforms creates consistency and helps people recognise you instantly.

3. Create a Social Media series

Don’t post one image and move on.

Spread your gallery over weeks or even months.

Each image can become a post about:

  • Your business journey
  • Behind the scenes
  • Client success stories
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Tips and advice
  • Your values
  • What inspires you

Your audience won’t see every post, so don’t worry about using several images from the same shoot. And having consistency helps people remember you anyway.

5. Update your Email Signature

You probably send dozens of emails every week.

Adding a small professional headshot to your email signature helps clients put a face to your name and makes every email feel warmer and more personal.

6. Refresh your Business Cards

Have you ever come home from a networking event with a handful of business cards, only to forget who half the people were?

You’re not alone!

Adding your photo to your business card can make you much more memorable and help people connect the card with the conversation they had with you.

4. Add them to your Marketing Materials

Your photos shouldn’t stop at social media.

Think about everywhere your business appears:

  • Newsletters
  • Presentations
  • Workshop slides
  • Proposals
  • Brochures
  • Flyers
  • Price guides
  • Welcome packs
  • Advertising

Professional photography makes every piece of marketing feel more polished and more personal.

7. Give your Newsletter more personality

People don’t subscribe to your mailing list just because they’re interested in your business.

They subscribe because they’re interested in you.

Including photos throughout your newsletters helps build familiarity and makes your emails feel much more personal.

8. Update your Speaker & Podcast Bio

If you’re asked to speak at events, appear on podcasts or contribute to articles, organisers will usually ask for a professional photo.

Having one ready saves time and ensures you’re represented consistently wherever you appear.

9. Use them in client documents

Think about all the documents you send to clients:

  • Welcome guides
  • Proposal documents
  • Investment guides
  • Service brochures
  • PDF downloads

Adding your own photography helps reinforce your brand and creates a more personal experience.

10. Celebrate milestones

Your new photos are the perfect excuse to celebrate.

Launching a new service?
Moving offices?
Winning an award?
Celebrating five years in business?
Share the news alongside one of your new images.

11. Reintroduce yourself

Every so often, it’s worth reminding people who you are and what you do.

Share one of your favourite images and tell people:

  • Who you help
  • Why you started your business
  • What you love most about your work
  • A few fun facts about yourself

You’ll be surprised how many people engage with these posts.

Keep them working for you

Perhaps the biggest mistake people make is trying to use all their images in one month.

Instead, think of your gallery as a marketing library.

Dip into it throughout the year.

Rotate your profile photos. Refresh your website every few months. Update your marketing materials.

Your investment will continue working long after your photography session is over.

Your photos deserve better than sitting in a folder

Professional brand photography isn’t just about creating beautiful images.

It’s about helping people recognise the person behind the business.

The more consistently you use your photos, the more familiar your business becomes – and this builds know, like and trust.

And remember if you wait for the perfect time to start making changes it will probably never happen!

Frequently Asked Questions about using brand photos

Should I use different photos on different social media platforms?

Not necessarily. It’s often better to use the same (or a similar) profile photo across your main platforms to create consistency and help people recognise you more easily. The more often potential clients see your face, the more familiar and memorable your business becomes, helping to build know, like & trust. However, you can use different images from your gallery of brand images for posts, stories and marketing campaigns to keep your content fresh.

How often do I need to update my headshot?

In my opinion there isn’t a correct amount of time – if things have changed with you – whether that’s physical (different hair, weight change, etc) or non-physical, like a change in direction of your brand/brand values/ideal clients, then that is a time that you definitely should update your headshots!

Other than that, a good rule of thumb is probably every 2–3 years, to try to stary current. The main thing is when people meet you in person, you look like the person they recognise from your social media profile, website or marketing materials.

How often should I update my business profile photo?

There’s no strict rule, but if you have a bank of (cohesive) images then they can be used to update your profile photo every few months, think reflecting the seasons, for example. Just remember to update them across all platforms for consistency and trust.

How do professional photos help with marketing?

Professional brand photography gives you a library of high-quality images to use across your website, social media, newsletters, presentations and printed marketing. It makes creating content easier and helps your business look consistent and professional.

What size should my profile photo be?

Every platform has slightly different recommended image sizes, and these can change over time. But most tend to be within a circle, so a square image is best for profile photos, and a close up image, so your face is centred and clearly visible.

Do I need separate photos for banner images?

It’s helpful if your photographer has included some wider landscape images with extra space around the subject. These work much better for website headers, LinkedIn banners and Facebook cover photos than tightly cropped headshots.

How can I get the most value from my brand photography session?

Think beyond social media. Use your images everywhere your business appears, keep your branding consistent across platforms, update your marketing materials regularly, and don’t be afraid to keep reusing your favourite images. That’s how you’ll get the best return on your investment.

Where should I use my professional brand photos?

As mentioned in the main blog post above – there are so many places you could (and should!) use your brand images. Think about your website, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Google Business Profile, email signature, newsletters, presentations, proposals, business cards, WhatsApp Business, Zoom, YouTube and any networking or membership directories you’re part of.
